Walter Dale, Former Resident Here, Died at Ottumwa, Sunday Walt Dale, 72 years old, and a former resident of the community east of Moravia, died at his home in Ottumwa at 5 o'clock, Sunday Morning of heart trouble following an attack of the flu.

He was the son of George and Susan Dale, pioneer settlers here and lived for years in the community above-mentioned where he built two country homes and reared his family. About 18 yeas ago he moved to Ottumwa but has often returned to Moravia at various intervals to keep up his acquaintance here.

Mr. Dale is survived by his wife; an adopted daughter; two sons, Lester of Los Angeles, CA, and Guy, who is seriously ill at an Oskaloosa hospital; a sister, Mrs. Alice Snook of Albia and a brother, John Dale, of Promise City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the Brompton Church at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon by Rev. W. P. Donahoo and Rev. Geo. Suenkel of the Moravia United Brethren church. Burial was made in the Arnold Cemetery near Brompton.

Walter Edgar Dale

Walter Edgar Dale was born in Monroe County, Iowa, in 1863. At the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Miss Ollie Cathey and to this union were born two sons, Lester and Guy. Mrs. Ollie Dale died in 1890 and Mr. Dale was later married to Miss Bertha Harkless and to this union was born one daughter, Hazel, who preceded him in death. Mr. Dale lived in Monroe County until eighteen years ago and since then has made his home in Ottumwa.

Those who survive him are his wife Mrs. Bertha Dale; two sons, Lester of San Francisco, CA and Guy of Ottumwa; and two adopted daughters, Mrs. H. South of Denver, CO and Mrs. J. H. Baker of Ottumwa.

Mr. Dale was always kind and true in thought and deed and he was always willing to help anyone in time of need. He has many friends and was highly esteemed by everyone.

Funeral services were conducted at the Brompton Free Methodist Church Tuesday, April 29th, by Rev. W. P. Donahoo with Rev. Ruenkel assisting. It was the twelfth funeral conducted by Rev. Donahoo among the near relatives of this family and he has also married a number of couples. Burial was made in the Arnold Cemetery.
