OTTUMWA — Mildred D. Burkhalter, 89, of 10811 River Road, died at 10:20 p.m., Nov. 30, 2007 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center with her family at her side. She was born April 24, 1918 in Davis County, Iowa to Marion and Marie Day Adams.

She married Bruce K. Burkhalter on July 22, 1947. A graduate of Bloomfield High School, she had worked in the office of Dr. Justus Roberts. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school and was a volunteer many years for the American Cancer Society. She was a very dedicated mother, grandmother and her family was her life.

Surviving are her husband; three sons, Bruce A., Jack L. and James F. Burkhalter and daughter, Nancy J. Boxx; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Chester and Donald Adams.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Comfort and Joe Selix officiating. Burial will be in the Shaul Cemetery.
