OTTUMWA — Michael J. Augspurger, 52, of Ottumwa, Iowa died Nov. 27, 2007, at his home.

He was born Feb. 13, 1955 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Larry A. and Darlene L. Murphy Augspurger.He was a 1973 graduate of Davis County High School in Bloomfield and attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He was a member of the Mennonite Church in rural Pulaski, Iowa.

He worked all of his life as a journalist for newspapers including those in Chariton, Bloomfield, Ottumwa and Burlington and received several state and national awards for his journalistic work. He also served as mayor of Bloomfield in the mid 1980s.

He is survived by a daughter, Nyla Howell of Newton, Iowa; an uncle; aunts and cousins.He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and a sister, Peg Augspurger.Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at the Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa with Pastor Darrell Zook officiating.Memorials may be made to Davis County Dollars for Scholars, in care of Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
