OTTUMWA — James “Ed” Coughlin, age 80, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at Risen Son.Ed was born in Melrose, Iowa on Nov. 7, 1926 to the late John and Julia Coughlin.Ed graduated from high school and worked for John Morrell Company in Ottumwa, Iowa. Ed and wife, Maxine, moved their family to Council Bluffs in 1969. A member of St. Patrick’s Church, Ed owned and operated Coughlin Cleaning Services for many years in this area.He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, in March of 2006; grandson, Matt Applegate; and his sisters, Mildred Sinnott and Winifred Lynch.Survivors include his son, Dennis and wife, Jean; daughters, Dana Applegate and husband, Mark, all Council Bluffs, Jamie Bausback and husband, Jeff, of Omaha, Cindy Putnam and husband, Bob, of Lexington, Ky., Debbie Raffetto and husband, Joe, of Salisbury, Md., Betsy Crompton and husband, Terry, of Iowa City, Iowa; 22 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond of Albia, Iowa.Visitation will be Thursday 6-9 p.m. with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m. at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home.Mass of Christian burial will be Friday 10 a.m., St. Patrick’s Church, Father David Fleming, celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at St. Patrick’s.Memorials to the Church, St. Albert Schools, American Heart and Lung Association.
