OTTUMWA — Arnold “Staubie” Staub, 92, of Ottumwa died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ottumwa.Arnold was born in Augusta, Iowa on Jan. 2, 1915 to Arthur and Mary Louise Shirmer Staub. He married Phyllis Orman on May 9th, 1937 in Ottumwa, Iowa.Staubie served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and was a lifetime member of the American Legion O.B. Nelson Post #3 of Ottumwa; he was also a member of D.A.V. and had been a member of a motorcycle club, he loved spending time in his garage and enjoyed mechanics, as well as gardening and was an avid sports fan enjoying baseball and football. He retired from John Morrell in the canning department and worked for O’Hara Hardware for several years.He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Ottumwa; one son, Arnold (Carolyn) Staub of Ottumwa; one daughter, Renee (Gary) Coberley of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Audra (Victor) Schartz of Salina, Kan., William (Linda) Wehage of Ankeny, Angela (Steve) Green of Ottumwa, Christi (Chris) Wedeking of Plainfield; two sisters, Maxine Taylor-Green of Burlington and Maejean Danover of West Point; one Brother, Lester (Joe) Florence of Audubon; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild; and three sisters, Margaret Yocum, Marciel Easton, Marie Hurley; and two brothers, Leonard and Leo “Dutch” Staub.Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 at the Shrine of Memories Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m.Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at the Shrine Of Memories Funeral Home with Rev. Kate Stangl officiating; burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa, Northgate Alliance Church, or East End Presbyterian Church.A reception will follow immediately after the burial at the North Gate Alliance Church.
