OTTUMWA — Mitchell “Mick” Hansen, 83, of 1402 N. Elm died at 6:55 p.m. September 21, 2007 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua. He was born June 5, 1924 in Buxton No. 18, Monroe County, Iowa to Leo and Muriel Venator Hansen. He married Bonnie Campbell June 2, 1952 in Aurora, Illinois. A military veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Cowell in the Pacific. He worked 26 years at John Morrell and Company, 20 years for Schwartz Insurance and was a Real Estate Broker, retiring in 1994. He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving is his wife, Bonnie; a son, Brent Hansen of Ottumwa; a daughter, Michele James of Corpus Christi, Texas; a brother, Patrick Hansen of Barling, Ark.; four sisters, Brigetta Rae Hansen of Ottumwa, Cecilia Mesecher of Pleasantville, Mary Youngman of Ottumwa, Sharon Doty of Aurora, Mo. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Ronald, Donald, Daniel, Michael and Hugh Hansen. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Reece Funeral Home with Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion. Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. A memorial has been established to Alzheimer’s Association.
