Ottumwa Courier July 23, 1975

John Johnston formerly of Blakesburg died Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.

He was born September 9,1882 in Ottumwa to Robert and Julia Barsee Johnston. A retired Wapello County farmer, he attended the Ottumwa Baptist Temple.

He married Eva Walker Feb. 25, 1905 in Ottumwa. She died in 1951.

Surviving are one son Hillis of Kansas City, Kan: six daughters; Mabel Grooms of Ottumwa, Hildred Hilliard of Chariton, Mildred Iser of Alden, Josephine Ratcliff of Soqual, CA, Gladys Weaver of Lancaster, PA., and Lavina Jackson of Phoeniz, Ariz.: several grandchildren and great-grandchildren , and one sister; Cora Chisman of Blakesburg.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, one son and two brothers.

The service will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. A.D. Pringle of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery southwest of Ottumwa.
