Mark McDavitt, 83, Ottumwa

OTTUMWA – William Mark McDavitt, 83, of 264 S. Moore St., died at 10 p.m. November 25, 2006 at his home.

He was born September 4, 1923 in Ottumwa to Hugh and Catherine Roach McDavitt. He married Betty Mace Harland on July 5, 1974.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from January 1943 to April 1946 during World War II. He retired from Vermeer Manufacturing in December 1985. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and always made friends by talking. He loved woodworking, clocks, and spending time outside with his dog, Molly.

He is survived by his wife, five sons, Michael F. McDavitt of Honolulu, HI, Stephen C. McDavitt of Bellevue, NE, Philip M. McDavitt of Glen Burnie, MD, James A. McDavitt of Farmington, MN, and Martin D. McDavitt of Honolulu, HI; two daughters, Mary L. Brown of Minneapolis, MN, and Teresa A. Peterson of Prior Lake, MN; a step-son, Bud Harland of Ottumwa; four step-daughters, Sally Amos of Ottumwa, Peggy Mills of Bloomfield, Jewel Steen and Kathy Crane of Ottumwa; many grandchildren including Alan and Deanne Frederick, Jeff and Cathy Frederick, Jimmy Taylor and Jeanne Heckart, Stan and Tammy Davis and Kim Thompson; many great-grandchildren including Connor, Elijah and Trinity Frederick, Haley and Hayden Frederick, Tyler Heckart, Trenton Harland, Steven and Michael Thompson.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Francis, Paul, John, Raymond, Walter and Mac McDavitt; two sisters, Agnes Armentrout and Margaret Bruns; a step-daughter, Rita Baker.

He has donated his body to the Department of Anatomy at the University of Iowa.

No memorial services are planned but his family will accept visitors at their home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday November 28, 2006.

Memorials may be made to Hospice 312 E. Alta Vista Ave. Ottumwa, IA 52501.

Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
