Jeanette Owens, 82, Ottumwa

OTTUMWA — Jeanette Owens, 82, of Ottumwa, passed away Thursday morning March 29, 2007, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Willard Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. Charles Luers officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 4:30-6 p.m. Friday, March 30 at Shrine of Memories Funeral Chapel, 3002 N. Court Road in Ottumwa.

Memorials may be made to the Willard Street United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Ottumwa.

Jeanette Kathryn Owens, daughter of Lee and Mary Hope, was born Sept. 26, 1924 near Memphis, Mo. She married Jerald Dean Owens on April 10, 1948 in Macon, Mo.

She and Jerald resided in Ottumwa their entire married life, where they raised three children. Jeanette was a graduate of Kirksville, Mo. Nursing school and was an RN for almost 40 years, having been a nurse at both Ottumwa Regional and former St. Joseph Hospital, from which she retired. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader while her children were growing up and she very much enjoyed camping and spending time with her grandchildren.

Jeanette is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jerald Dean Owens of Ottumwa; her son, Phil (Shirley) Owens of Oskaloosa, Iowa; her daughter, Mary (Jack) Mitchell and Karen (Steve) White, all of Ottumwa, Iowa. She is also survived by one sister, Katie Hope of Burlington, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
