Otto Bromhorst 88 years old, pioneer local retail grocer and a resident of Ottumwa since 1872; died at 2:15 a.m. today at his home 146 Vogel Avenue.

Mr. Brenhorst suffered a fractured hip, in a fall about two years ago, and has been bedfast since that time.

He was born March 11, 1846 , in New Church , Westphalia, Prussia. In 1864 he came to the United States with a neighbor boy he knew in Germany.

After working two years in Missouri, and Illinois before coming to Iowa in 1869. Mr. Bremhorst settled in Lee County. He moved to Ottumwa in 1872.

He worked for about 15 years in a grocery store.
