DEATH CALLS OLD RESIDENT OF COUNTY
MRS. SARAH GROOMS, 88 years old, widow of JAMES GROOMS and a resident of Wapello county,Iowa for the past eighty years, died at her home near Christianburg,Iowa nine miles west of Ottumwa,Iowa, at 6:50 a.m. today.
MRS. GROOMS was born in (Dearborn County) Indiana and came to Iowa in a covered wagon, making the trip when but a child. She had lived in this county since coming to Iowa. Her husband, JAMES GROOMS, preceded her in death August 1, 1929. She was a member of the Christianburg church.
Surviving MRS. GROOMS are one son, NEWTON GROOMS of Blakesburg,Iowa; two daughters, MRS. (DELLA) C. E. HALL of Blakesburg,Iowa and MRS. (WINIFRED) B. A. HAND of Ottumwa,Iowa; one sister MRS. (ALMIRA) T. C. CANFIELD, and a brother, JAMES JOHNSTON, both of Ottumwa,Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Johnson funeral chapel, conducted by the Rev. O. B. Preston, pastor of the Plymouth Congregational church. Burial will be made in Chisman cemetery.
