AGED PIONEER PASSES AWAY AT HOME HERE

JAMES GROOMS, 85 years old and a veteran of the Civil War, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday at his home nine miles west of Ottumwa,Iowa. He is survived by his wife, MRS. SARAH GROOMS, one son, NEWTON GROOMS of Blakesburg,Iowa and two daughters, MRS. (DELLA) C. E. HALL of Blakesburg,Iowa and MRS. (WINIFRED) B. A. HAND, of Ottumwa,Iowa. He served with the 7th Iowa Cavalry during the Civil war and was discharged as a lieutenant. He had been a resident of Wapello county,Iowa for seventy-six years.

The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence in charge of the Rev. L. H. Lanning, pastor of the Williard Street Methodist Episcopal chuch. Interment will be made in the Chisman cemetery.
