ELMO L. COLLETT died May 25, 1972 in Long Beach, California. A former OTTUMWAN, ws killed in an automobile accident on the Santa Fe Freeway near Tustin, California, early Thursday May 25th.

He was a former employee of the John Morrell and Company of Ottumwa,Iowa.

He was born March 10, 1915 in Ottumwa,Iowa; the son of OLIVER and VERLA BROUGH COLLETT. He lived most of his life in Ottumwa,Iowa, prior to moving to California 5 years ago.

Surviving are one son, ELMO JR. COLLETT; 4 daughters MRS. PATTY WEST of Lakeside, Oregon; MRS. GAYE YORK of Phoenix, Ariz; MRS. COLLEEN WILKINS and MRS. CAROL WEEKS, both of Ottumwa,Iowa; his parents MR. and MRS. OLIVER O. COLLETT; 2 brothers; ELMER and ELMO JR. COLLETT, both of Ottumwa,Iowa; and 1 sister MRS. VIOLA SMITH of Ottumwa,Iowa. He was preceded in death by one brother DELBERT COLLETT.

The body was returned to the Johnson Funeral Home of Ottumwa where the service will be held Wednesday at 10 am, with the Reverand Stanley WOESTE of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert BARKER, Robert YODER, Arthur ZOOK, (OR SNOOK) Harry CLARK, Lewis AMOS and Larry BROWN.

PS> My father (JAMES LANIGAN) told me that my Uncle Elmo COLLETT had gotten out of his vehicle to stetch his legs and have a banana as a snack. A truck came by and plowed into the rear of his vehicle where he was standing. He was killed instantly.
