Re: Halberstadt/Maple Grove Cemetery

HALBERSTADT

In Response To: Halberstadt/Maple Grove Cemetery (Kathy)

According to the Iowa Van Buren County Maple Grove Cemetery Inscriptions booklet dated 2002, the following two HALBERSTADT individuals are buried next to each other (and listed on the same stone) - thus presumably married:

Helen K. Halberstadt (1916 - 1972)
Hubert (Hap) Halberstadt (1915 - ____)

Helen is listed as having the maiden name Van Steinburgh. In addition, they are buried inbetween Henry R. Van Steinburgh on one side and Foster L. & Muriel L. Van Steinburgh on the other side.

On a personal note, Muriel Van Steinburgh was my neighbor in Cantril when I was a young child (she being an elderly lady at the time).

I suspect the only newspaper in the area at the time of Helen's death (1972) - and the only newspaper between then and now - is the Van Buren County Register published in Keosauqua.

Hopefully, this has been of some help.

Steven
