When Sherman Oren Buck was born on 2 November 1861, in Van Buren, Iowa, United States, his father, Elmour Fayette Buck, was 29 and his mother, Mary Bradford, was 26. He married Jennie May Surbaugh on 28 February 1886, in Hebron, Thayer, Nebraska, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in El Cajon Township, San Diego, California, United States in 1940 and San Diego, San Diego, California, United States in 1950. In 1920, at the age of 58, his occupation is listed as dairy farmer in Calexico, Imperial, California, United States. He died on 13 July 1955, in El Cajon, San Diego, California, United States, at the age of 93, and was buried in San Jacinto, Riverside, California, United States.
