Sherman and Rosa Lemaster, with their young children Nellie and Clarence, migrated to near Bonaparte IA some time in 1914-1917. Per the 1915 Iowa State Census for Rosa, they rented a farm and were affiliated with the Baptist church. I have not yet found Sherman's entry in that census. On 25NOV1915 Sherman wrote a personal check to Eam May for chickens, tools, house furniture, and corn on his account at Traders & Farmers State Bank of Bonaparte IA. By 5JUN1917 they had migrated to Scioto County OH per Sherman's WWI Draft Card.
HOW do I find the following:
1) Where did they live in Iowa? What farm? Where specifically?
2) Was Sherman a farm laborer vs a farmer on his own account on rented property?
3) Did Sherman purchase a farm there?
4) Is there a way (via a tax record) to learn what they produced on the farm?
5) Is there _any_ story or record related to them? Why they came? What happened while there? Why they left? Did some disaster impact them? Was there a general crop failure in 1914 or 1915 or 1916?Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Matt LeMaster (great grandson of Sherman & Rosa)
