Hello Paula,..I became Very much interested in the Vernon school house and it's history when I learned that Riley Cass was a brother to my GGGrandfather Leroy Cass. History has credited Riley as being the architect.. but I have also "heard" but not been able to substantiate that Leroy was credited with building the spiral staircase. I am currently a member of the Van Buren County Historical Preservation Commission and look forward to an opportunity to tour this great building. Dan Cass Birmingham, Iowa
