This is what I have compiled out of everything I could find on the family. This may give you a good start.

Sometime in the late 1700’s William and his brother Garret Terhune decided to take their families and migrate down the Ohio River and settle in Mercer County, Kentucky. It seems to have been a very adventurous trip by wagon and raft. They ventured into parts of the rough country that was filled with hostile Indians. Their occupation of farming was not always the safest way of earning a living either. They and their families were members of a Dutch Reformed Church built in 1801. It is now a historical site near Harrodsburg, known as the Mud Meeting House, referring to the manner in which its walls were built.

William died June 18, 1828 at the age of 71. Maria died August 4, 1848 at the age of 86. Both died in Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky.

The sixth child born to William and Maria was Isaac Terhune born March 17, 1796 in Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky. He married Elizabeth Shepard March 18, 1815 in Mercer County, Kentucky. She was born about 1785 the daughter of John and Nancy Hopkins Schaffer (see Schaeffer report) Isaac and she had at least 6 known children:

10. Nancy Terhune married James Chapman May 13, 1833 in Edgar County, Illinois. It is unknown of children.
11. *David Terhune born 1812 in Kentucky married Margaret Ann Stump February 1, 1842 in Edgar County, Illinois. 6 daughters
12. Mary Terhune married George Stump Feb 2, 1835 in Edgar County, Illinois. It is unknown of children.
13. Eliza Terhune
14. *Jane Terhune born in 1827 in Kentucky married James Tweedy September 13, 1843 in Edgar County, Illinois.
15. William Terhune born March 18, 1837 married Sarah Jane Tweedy March 8 1860 in Edgar County, Illinois he died January 2, 1883

Isaac died March 13 1859 in Vermillion County, Illinois at the age of 63. It is unknown where and when Elizabeth died. I would presume in Vermillion County.

This line now starts to come together a little. David Terhune was born in 1812 in Mercer County, Kentucky and married Margaret Ann Stump February 1, 1843 in Edgar County Illinois. She was born around 1823 in Kentucky the daughter of David Washabaugh and Catharine Ripple Stump. (see Stump report) I have not found when the death of David occurred but Margaret died ??? 1876 in Van Buren County, Iowa, at the age of 55. Her stone in Mt. Moriah Cemetery notes her as the wife of David so I presume he was still alive in 1876. David and Margaret had at least 6 daughters:

16. Elizabeth Terhune born 1843 in Illinois married ? Haney
17. Sarah Terhune born 1845 in Illinois married ? Wingler?
18. *Calia Emeline (Emily) Terhune born January 23, 1849 in Illinois married D J. Evans
19. Martha Terhune born 1850 in Illinois married ? Hitchoch?
20. Mary Jane Terhune born June 1855 in Illinois married Isaac A. Grimsley or Grimes? August 31, 1875 in Van Buren County, Iowa. She died December 31, 1941 in Wapello County, Iowa. They had 8 known children.
21. Rexia (Angy?) Terhune born ? and married Melvyn Rhodes November 20, 1866 in Van Buren County, Iowa.

A sister to David was Jane Terhune born sometime in 1827 in Kentucky. She married James Madison Tweedy September 13, 1846 in Edgar County, Illinois. (see Tweedy report)He was born March 15, 1823 in Fayette County, Illinois. Jane died sometime before 1880 as James is listed as a widow in the 1880 census of Shawnee County, Kansas. He lived with their daughter Nancy Denison and her family at the time. He died June 21, 1882 at the age of 59. Jane and James had 10 children:

22. *Lorenzo Dow Tweedy born March 10, 1848 in Vermillion County, Indiana and died June 12, 1925, in Van Buren County, Iowa. He married Sarah Ann Hull

February 27, 1873, in Van Buren County, Iowa. They had 4 children including

in Marlan, Allen County, Kansas. She married Francis Marion Twineham March 18, 1877 in Floris, Iowa. They had 10 children.

February 4, 1879 in Bloomfield, Iowa. They had 4 children.
28. William Albert Tweedy born March 4, 1861 in Van Buren County, Iowa and died

Feb 2, 1935 in Van Buren County, Iowa. He married Susan Florence Winters

December 13, 1855 in Douds. It is unknown of his children.
29. Margaret E. Tweedy born March 11, 1863 in Van Buren County, Iowa and died

November 1863 in Van Buren County, Iowa.
30. Sarah Louise Tweedy born November 1865 in Van Buren County, Iowa and died

in 1951 in Texas. She married John Eli Griffis. It is unknown of her children.
31. Infant son born February 7, 1870 and died 1870 in Van Buren County, Iowa.

Calia Emeline (Emily) Terhune, the daughter of David and Margaret Stump Terhune, was born January 23, 1847 in Clark County, Illinois. There is a discrepancy about the year that she was born. The 1850 Clark County, Illinois census and her tombstone read 1847. Her obituary reads 1849. Along with her parents, David and Margaret, she moved to Birmingham when a young girl. She married David J. Evans August 5, 1868. He was born in 1843. (See Evans Report) They moved to Washington, Iowa about 1895. David was a miner in the far southwest corner of Jefferson County. Emily refused to live in the “boonies” so she lived in Washington near her children while David worked in the mines during the week, coming home on weekends. David died August 2, 1912, age 69, in Jefferson County, Iowa at his mining cabin on Black Creek. He is buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Douds, Iowa. Emily died March 14, 1919 in Washington, Iowa, age 72, at the home of her daughter, where she had lived the last 7 years of her life. She had fallen 2 years prior and broke her hip and had never been well since that time. Emily is buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Douds, Iowa alongside her husband. They had 6 children:

1. Chester Evans born 1870 and died 1954
2. *Clarence Evans born May 4, 1872 near Birmingham, Iowa and died 1937
3. Margaret Ann Evans born 1874 married A. J. Horsey 1894 died 1937

6. Infant

Note**Clarence Evans on March 5,1902 married his 2nd cousin Mary Ann Tweedy.

This line is continued in the Evans report. Jan 20, 2003
