I did some quick searching but it would be helpful if you could verify some information so I know if I am looking for the correct Oliver Garrett.
I found Oliver P. in the 1880 Federal census living in Des Moines, Van Buren, Iowa with Sarah C. Garrett and 3 children; N.C, Lucy and Elsie. I also found a marriage record for Oliver P Garrett and Sarah Catherine Hale on September 7, 1872 in Van Buren County, Iowa. In the 1900 Federal Census I found Oliver P. Garrett married to May F. Garrett with another child named Hobart P. The record indicates Oliver and May had been married 7 years at the time of the census. Therefore, I would have to assume that Sarah Catherine died between the 1880 census and the 1900 census. I did not find any listing for her in the Iowa gravestone project or the WPA project so I could not determine when she passed away. It is possible that the record could be found at the Van Buren county court house or the library. However, before I do any more searching I would appreciate knowing if this is the correct Oliver P. Garrett. Also, do you have any information on his second marriage and when they might have moved to Illinois.
