Several years ago I had an email query concerning the descendants of Alonzo Cox 1852-1916 and Mary Elvira Hales 1852-1923 of Vernon Twp Van Buren County, IA. This query came from a lady named Marian Cox, whose email address I've lost. She may be Mrs. Willis Cox. I would like to contact this Marian Cox who appeared knowledgable about the Cox family. In addition to that I welcome contact from anyone else interested in the families listed above.
I'll be happy to share a 1900 photo taken at the home of Thomas Hales, father of Mary Elvira Hales Cox, in Keosauqua, IA. (see link at bottom of page)
The 8 1/2x11 professional photo is in excellant condition, it contains 59 persons, 24 males, 32 females and 3 small children. Twenty-two have been reliably identified leaving 37 without names.
Confirmed names include Hales, Cox, Blackledge, Watkins, Peterson, Mankin, Fowler, Dake. Eller, Payne, Mize.
Other possible names are Moody, Crowell, Davis, Wells, Read, Wilson, Jacobson, Burton, Brockman, Arisman.
With all of the surnames I've listed, it is possible that someone may be able to help identify those people in the photo and the reason for such a large gathering at the Thomas Hales home in Keosauqua. The date is not confirmed but almost certainly is the summer of 1900. The manner of dress, very formal with dark suits, leads me to discount a happy occasion such as a family reunion or a Fourth-of-july celebration.
I will be most happy to provide a copy (see link below) of this photo and other information that I have compiled after more than 40 years of writing stories and researching the 1250 names in my computer genealogy program.
