Carey Wilkin obituary

WILKIN

Good afternoon,

I am trying to find further information about the death of my grandfather, Carey Wilkin. He was born in Keosauqua, Iowa in 1871 the only surviving son of Capt. Abe Wilkin who was a Civil War veteran and Postmaster and Mayor of that town. Carey Wilkin was a court reporter for Judge Robert Sloan. He and my grandmother were married in 1896. I have in my possession a copy of his death notice with no date given and the name of the newspaper not listed. The notice lists the site of his death as Ontario, Oregon, but no particulars of the death are provided other than the fact that he was probably buried there. I am assuming that he died sometime between 1918 and 1920, but this is speculation on my part based on family stories over the years. If anyone has any information that they could share regarding his death or any suggestions about how I might investigate the matter further, I would be most appreciative. I have used the normal sources of information--Ancestry.com and Archives.com--but so far have not been able to obtain further details.

Sincerely,
Gary W. Johnston
