Am looking for any information on the Archibald Carr and Elizabeth McElroy families. Archibald was born in Belmont County(?), OH on Sepember 26, 1807, no parents are listed. Elizabeth was born February 7, 1807, and her place of birth was along the Susquehenna River in PA. Archibald and Elizabeth were married September 1, 1829 in Belmont County, OH.
In 1840 the family lived in the little community of Taylorville, Muskingum Co., OH just south of Zanesville on the Muskingum River. They had one boy (William) and two girls (Mary Jane and Catherine E.) under the age of five and two boys (Peter C. and James A.) between five and ten years of age. They were running a rooming house and appeared that they had 4 male and 2 female
roomers. In 1849 they arrived in Van Buren County, IA with the above children plus John b. 1841, Deborah b.1843, Sarah b. 1848, and Martha b. 1849. They had two more children born in IA, Margaret b. 1851, and Emma b. 1854. One son John died in the Civil War and none of the girls reached adulthood. Deborah lived the longest and was 17 when she died in 1860.Archibald died February 6, 1860 and is buried at Farmington. Elizabeth died February 13, 1897 and is buried at Farmington. Elizabeth's mother Jane, was born January 11, 1778 (place unknown) and died September 11, 1855 and is buried in the Farmington City Cemetery. In the 1850 US Census for Farmington there was a James McElroy living with Archibald and Elizabeth Carr and he could have been her father (or uncle). There was no record of Jane McElroy living there.
There are a number of McElroys buried in the Farmington Cemetery and there are several Carrs who we do not know if they are members of Archibalds extended family or not.
We would desperately like to find information that could identify Archibalds birth parents and provide more information about Elizabeth. One of Archibalds gg grandsons has volunteered to have a DNA test performed so we can maybe match
up to a known Carr line in the US.Any information or fellow relatives response would be greatly appreciated.
