searching for family info

I'm looking for information about a son of Isaac and Charlotte (Roach) Fry who settled in Van Buren county in 1854. Isaac and Charlotte are my maternal grandmother's paternal grandparents (how confusing!) They had a son named James L. Fry who served in the Civil War and died shortly after the war, according to Charlotte's obituary in the Keosauqua Republican dated April 24, 1902. I'd like to know more about James L. Fry, his regiment, how/when he died, was his death war related. Can you tell me how to find out any more information?
