John Moore died 1855

Would appreciate any help or information about John Moore B. 1803 Ohio, died 26 Nov 1855, Van Buren Co. IA. He was married to Katherine Coon whose brother may also have died in 1855 Van Buren Co.
Family story says they were killed by Indians. Is there any history to back this up?
