Mrs. Wm. Meek.
Margaret M. Johnson was born in Bonaparte in Oct., 1852. She was the third daughter of the late Wm. J. and Mary J. Johnson. All her early life was passed here and she was greatly loved by all who knew her on account of her kindly generous disposition.
In March, 1874, she was married to Wm. Meek, also of this place. In 1888 they moved to Denver, Colo., which has since been the family home.
Mrs. Meek has not been in the best of health for some years, but only since Thanksgiving has she been seriously ill. She was not thought to be in immediate danger until a day or two before her death, the cause of which was valvular heart disease. Death occurred at 7:30 A. M. Dec. 14 and the news came as a great shock to her many relatives and friends here.
Mrs. Meek was a few months past 59 years of age. She had been a member of the Congregational Church for some years.
Of her immediate family are left her husband, Wm. Meek; two step children, Alden Meek of Denver, and Mrs. Effie Foster of Los Angeles; four children, Shirley R.?, William, Georgia, and Mrs. Lottie McCann of Denver, all of whom were with her in the last hours.
Of brothers and sisters are left Mrs. Geo. T Warde, Chicago, Mrs. Geo. F. Smith, Keosauqua, Mr. J. A. Johnson, Bonaparte, and Mr. Geo. B. Johnson, of Ft. Worth, Texas. The funeral services were held in Denver Saturday afternoon, the three sons and a son-in-law acting as pall bearers. Of the brothers and sisters, only Mrs. Smith was able to attend the funeral.

DEATH OF A TRULY
NOBLE WOMANDemise in Denver of Mrs.
Margaret Johnson Meek,
Formerly of BonaparteA telegram was received Thursday last announcing the death of Mrs. Margaret Johnson Meek, wife of Wm. Meek of Denver, Col. Mrs. Meek was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Johnson of Bonaparte, and was born at Bonaparte Oct. 24, 1853, being 58 years, one month and 21 days old. She spent her childhood and younger womanhood days at Bonaparte and in 1874 was united in marriage to William Meek, son of Robert Meek, senior member of the firm of Meek Bros., owners of the woolen mills. About 1887 they removed to Denver, where she had since resided.
Mrs. Meek was the mother of four children, who with the husband survive her. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers – Mrs. Geo. F. Smith of Keosauqua and Mrs. Geo. T. Ward of Chicago and J. A. Johnson of Bonaparte and Geo. B. Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas. Mrs. Smith departed for Denver Thursday evening and was present at the funeral which was held Saturday and which was attended by other former Van Buren county residents who now reside in Denver.
No more highly respected and beloved young lady ever resided at Bonaparte than Mrs. Maggie Johnson Meek. She was a true Christian, a member of the Presbyterian church, and a devoted wife and mother and a noble, helpful, loving and beloved woman. Her sudden death from heart trouble was a crushing bereavement to her relatives and brought sadness to all who knew her.
But she died as she had lived – honored, trusted and beloved. She reared her own monument while she lived in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was beautiful from the begining [sic] to its close, and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in the way her faith in God and her sweetness of disposition never remained. But she is gone and today the late autumn leaves fall upon another grave that hides from earthly vision all that is mortal of a true and noble woman.
