A Good Man Gone.

Nicholas Lundy died at his residence in Bonaparte, Iowa, Feb. 19, 1893, aged 85 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Mr. Lundy was born in Logan county, Union township, Ohio, Feb. 28, 1807. In 1823, when but sixteen years of age, he emigrated to Illinois settling in Sangamon county. From this place, he with his family, emigrated to Iowa in 1837; settling in Bonaparte Tp. Van Buren county, on December 1st of that year. For over fifty-six years he has lived here; and was one of the early settlers of the county. Mr. Lundy was married Mary 19, 1830, to Miss Pheobe Troxel. This lady was born in Ohio county, Kentucky, October 12, 1811; and with her parents had emigrated to Illinois, where Mr. Lundy met her. After a married life of 62 years and 9 months she is left to mourn his departure. Twelve children were born of this union. Nine of them are yet living; three died, two in infancy, and Frederick in the army during the war of the Rebellion. Of those ling, Mrs. Nancy Robinson lives in Bonaparte, Samuel Lundy, Bentonsport, Ia., Mrs. Mary Raney, Farmington, Ia., Mrs. Sarah McAtee and Mrs. Amy Guyton, Kansas, Oliver and John in Nebraska, and Nathan in Montana. These, with many grandchildren, relatives and friends unite in mourning his departure.

Mr. Lundy was converted to the Christian faith in early life, some years before his marriage. He first united with the Christian church in Illinois; on moving to Iowa, he with his wife, joined the United Brethren church; but when the church now known as the Bethel Baptist church was organized in this county, he with his wife, withdrew from the Brethren church and united with it. In this connection he had steadfastly remained to the day of his death. To his family he often said during the past year, that he was ready to go home when God called him. And this has been repeated again and again since the last sickness and the recent accident came upon him., which ended his life. The family have the sympathy of their neighbors and friends in their day of sorrow.

The funeral took place at the Baptist church in Bonaparte, Iowa, Tuesday, 9:30 a. m., and conducted by Rev. Geo. Houghton, of Woodbine, Iowa. He was buried near his old home in the country near Bonaparte, where he rests to await the resurrection of the Last Day.
