Gone to Her Reward.
Julia Kennedy was born April 2, 1820, in Scott county, Ill., and died of Consumption, at her home near Big Mound, Iowa, August 24, 1893. She was married to Josiah Kennedy, 1837. They then moved to Iowa and settled near Clay Grove, and removed from there in 1843, to Cedar township, where they reared their family in honor. Nine children were born to them; four of them with their father, preceded the mother to the better land. Five are left, James, Joanna, Nellie, Mrs. Wm. Dinsmore of Big Mound and William Kennedy of Stockton, California, to mourn their loss.
Deceased was a member of the Christian church for several years. The funeral services were held at the Clay Grove church, at eleven o'clock August 26, by Rev. Heightshoe, who preached a beautiful sermon from the 14th chap. Of Job. The choir sang Nearer my God to Thee, Asleep in Jesus, and Jesus Lover of My Soul, after which she was laid to rest beside her beloved companion in Clay Grove cemetery.
The pall bearers were Messrs. J. Sivil, S. McGown, J. Ware, R. Dinsmore, H. Logan an Wm. Hemming, Senior.
The floral offerings were beautiful and appropriate, among them being a beautiful wreath of white lilies and [illegible], by Mrs. Cass and Mrs. Ryland; a sickle of tube roes, Mrs. Joe Meek and family; a wreath, by Miss Katie Eieb; all of Bonaparte, A boquet of white flowers, Mrs. F. G. Gesford, of Farmington; a cluster of white lilies, Mrs. H. F. Moore; and anchor and wreath, by Miss Addie Logan, Mrs. Lizzie Clark and Mrs. John Heaton.
