LAURA FORDYCE SILVER

Laura Fordyce, daughter of Seth and Harriet Fordyce, was born near Winchester, Iowa, October 15, 1853, being at the time of her death, which occurred October 11, 1925, about 72 years of age.

At the age of seventeen years Laura Fordyce was united in marriage with John M. Silver, of Cantril, Iowa, and has made her home near and in Cantril since that time. To this union four sons were born.

Her husband preceded her in death, passing in June 1924, after an illness of about five years duration.

Mrs. Silver loved her home on the farm and it was there her happiest days were spent, ministering to the comforts of her family and watching with a mother's solicitude the growth and development of her four sons.

Her first great anxiety in her immediate family came when her youngest son, Arch L., offered his services to his country and departed with his regiment for France.

The first great misfortune befell the family when her husband was stricken with paralysis, shortly after the war was over. The sorrow which undermined the health of Mrs. Silver, however, and which remained with her constantly thru the years, was the untimely death of her youngest son, Arch L., which occurred from an accident in 1921.

She united with the Christian church early in life remaining a member throughout the years.

Eight months ago an over tired body gave evidence of a breaking down of physical resistance. The heart refused to do its work normally and the long hard suffering endured will always be a regret to her friends.

Those who survive to mourn her departure are her sons, J. C. of Stockport, S. S. and F. F. of Cantril and their families, a sister, Mrs. Mattie Workman, of Stockport and a number of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Cantril Christian church, Tuesday afternoon, October 13th, Elder H. C. Shaw, pastor, officiating. Burial in Cantril cemetery.
