THOMAS IOWA MUIR
OBITUARY SKETCH.Thomas Iowa Muir was born on Vernon Prairie in Van Buren county, Iowa, May 8, 1842, and died at Keosauqua, Iowa, March 21, 1905, aged sixty-two years, ten months, and thirteen days.
August 22, 1862, he enlisted in Co E. 15th Iowa Infantry. He was captured by the enemy at the battle of Atlanta, July 22, 1864, but soon made his escape. He marched with Sherman's army to the sea, thence north by way of the Carolinas through Richmond to Washington D. C. where he participated in the Grand Review May 24, 1865. He was mustered out of the service with Co. and Reg. at Louisville, Ky., by reason of the close of the way.
August 23, 1868, he was married in Keosauqua to Miss Susie Harrison of that place, Rev. W. S. Richards performing the ceremony.
In 1867 he bought the farm that he still owned at the time of his death near Lebanon, on which his son, Ralph now resides. Immediately after his marriage they moved to the farm and with the exception of about three years in Ottumwa lived there until 1897 when they moved to Keosauqua.
Funeral services were held at the home in Keosauqua Thursday, conducted by Rev. Perkins, with interrment [sic] in the Purdom cemetery.
He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, one son, Ralph, one sister, Mrs. M. J. Burne of Denver, Col., and one brother, W. P. L. Muir, of Bonaparte. One son died in infancy.
