Kendall Abraham Atkins, son of William H. and Sarah Atkins was born near Lemons, Missouri on February 3, 1891. In 1897 when 6 years of age he moved with his parents to Milton Iowa, where he has resided ever since and attended school. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother passing away in 1912, his father in 1929, and one brother and sister; Emmet in 1906 and Marian in 1922. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sylvia Wilson of Davenport Iowa, two brothers Waldo of Milton and Dorris of San Francisco California; also a half brother and sister, Jesse and Mrs. Stella Davidson, besides nieces and nephews, other relatives and a large circle of friends.
He was an active member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge in Milton, and School director for 12 years and very much interested in the Parent Teacher Association in the district where he resided.
He was never married. About two years ago his sister Mrs. Davidson and her husband came to live with him and they spent two happy years together. He was a good neighbor and friend, who had the welfare of the community at heart. He was always ready and willing to cooperate with others for the best interests of neighbors and friends even though his own interests suffered on account of it.
Friday morning, August 28, 1936 he went the several of his friends to attend the State Fair at Des Moines several days. While sitting in the amphitheater watching the auto races in the afternoon, he was suddenly stricken with a heart attack. He was taken to the hospital on the fairgrounds but slipped quietly away before medical aid arrived.
The funeral service was held at his home on Monday morning at 10:30, in charge of Burnett and Son funeral directors. Rev. Hehner was the officiating minister, and Will Allen, Harold Price, Carl Roby, Roy Archer, Cecil Zugg and Earl Bristow were casket bearers. Interment was in the Milton Sunnyside cemetery. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
