SAMUEL H. WARREN
Samuel H. Warren was born in Wexford county, Ireland, July 31, 1839. He moved with his parents to Liverpool, England, in 1846, and in the following year came with them to the United States, locating at Sandusky, O. In 1854 he moved to Dubuque, Iowa, and in 1857 to Kansas. In his early life he worked at the carpenter trade. He bought a farm near Eudora, Kansas, on which he lived until 1876. On September 12, of that year, he was united in marriage to Jane Warren and moved back to Iowa, locating on the farm in Vernon township where he lived to the time of his death, Sept. 11, 1907, age 68 years, 1 month and 11 days. His wife, two sons, Edward J. and Samuel W., one brother, Edward Warren of Lawrence, Kansas, four sisters, Mrs. Ellen Melville, Lawrence, Kansas; Mrs. Anna Coots, Portland, Oregon; Mrs Elizabeth Whitney, Texas City, Texas, and Mrs. John Cahlan [sic] of Susanville, California, remain to mourn for him. He was converted when about fifteen years of age and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which he remained a faithful and true member to the end. He held the official positions of steward and trustee for many years and was ever faithful and efficient in the discharge of the duties connected with the office. In his dealings with his official brethren he was always kind and frank, always seeking the best interest of the church. His last message to them was to bid them Godspeed. The same characteristics that marked his relation to the church were also manifest in his business relations. A man of integrity and sterling worth he held the respect and esteem of all who knew him. From boyhood Bro. Warren had been under affliction through loss of hearing, which steadily grew worse as the years increased. He had also suffered for some time from other causes which a few weeks before his decease became acute. But notwithstanding his impaired health and inability to hear the service, he was as constant an attendant upon the means of grace as the circumstances would allow, feeling that it was his duty to let others know that he was on the Lord's side. He will be greatly missed at Center Chapel, for all truly feel that a friend and brother beloved has been taken from them. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. George Blagg, assisted by Rev. H. F. Gilbert, a former pastor, and Rev. D. M. C. Wilcox of Foo Ch[??] China, on Sept. 12, 1907, the 31st anniversary of his marriage. Interment was made in the cemetery nearby.
