John H. Cresap.
John Hanson Cresap, was born April 18th, 1845, in Alleghany (sic) County, Maryland, died September 4th, at 3:25 p.m., aged 64 yrs, 4 mos., and 10 days. He came to Van Buren County, in 1860, and was married to Margaret Ellen Bradford January 22nd, 1865. Five children, all girls, were born to them, three of whom have died. The surviving daughters are Mrs. Berenice (sic?) M. Stebbins and Mrs. Medora T. Moore.
He is survived by two sisters and five brothers; Mrs. Margaret Fisher, of Cumberland, Maryland; Mrs. Kate Humphreys, of Bonaparte, Iowa; Mr. Oliver Cresap, of Canyon City, Oregon; Mr. R. T. Cresap, of Koshkonong, Mo.; Mr. Jonathan Cresap, of Selma, Iowa and Messrs. Dan and Robert Cresap of Bonaparte, Iowa.
John H. Cresap has been identified with the business interests of Bonaparte continuously for years, has been a member of the City Council, a Director of the Farmers and Traders State Bank, and a large holder of business property in the town, his familiar figure as well as his conservative counsel will be missed by his business associates. Mr. Cresap has always worked for the upbuilding of his home town, has been liberal in helping all public improvements and generous in his donations for charity.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Sept. 6, at the late home, Rev. Drose of the M.E. church officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery.
