S. H. Blackburn.

Stephen Henry Blackburn, was born in Lewis Co., Mo., Oct. 6th, 1851, and passed away at Bonaparte, Iowa, Nov. 7th, 1910, aged 59 years, 1 month, and 1 day. He lived in Missouri and Illinois until 1882 when he with his family moved to Bonaparte.

He was married March 23rd, 1877, to Marion Marshall at Louisiana, Mo. One child, Clarence William was born of this union. The deceased became a member of the Pres. Church when 23 years old, and has remained a consistent member since that time; transferring his membership to the Bonaparte church in 1905. He was a member of the board of trustees, and took an active part in the erection of the new church building in 1901. In the passing of Mr. Blackburn, the church on earth has lost one of its strongest pillars, the village one of it’s best citizens, and the family a kind father, and loving husband. His end was peaceful. His faith was strong in Christ.

There are left to mourn their loss, and aged father, John W. Blackburn; a wife and one son; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Poage, and Mrs. Mollie *aughn; and two brothers John H. and J. W. Blackburn, all of Lewis Co., Mo.

He came to Bonaparte in 1882 to run the Meek grist mill and was employed there until his health failed about five years ago. He was energetic, accommodating and strictly honorable.

He carried insurance in three companies: - two thousand in the Bankers Life of Des Moines, one thousand in the Court of Honor, and two thousand in the Mutual Protective League.

He was at different times a member of the city council and took a great interest in the affairs of his town even in the last few years when his health was failing. His help and advice will be greatly missed in the council room.

Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon, Rev. H.J. Taylor officiating. Interment is the Bonaparte cemetery.
