Rebecca D. Barker.
Rebecca D. True was born March 25, 1854 [correct birth year should be 1844], in Carrol Co., Ohio, and just at sunset in the evening of Dec. 7, 1910, her spirit went back to the God who gave it. Her age was 66 years, 8 mo. 12 days.
She was married to Wm. A. Barker in 1860. To this union were born ten children. She is survived by the following, of her children. Zora E., wife of J.H. Mulligan; Edna L., wife of T.L. Workman; Lella O., wife of F.L. Moore; Bessie L. wife of C.S. Bogle; Wilda A., wife of Dr. J.F. Stong; and the only son, Wm. Webb Barker.
She united with the Presbyterian church in 1868. It is an easy and common thing to eulogize the dead, but here indeed is a life worthy of remembrance and emulation. Mrs. Barker was a kind neighbor, a devoted mother, and a faithful friend. Always charitable regarding earthly possessions to those whose lives were laid in less pleasant places.
During the ten weeks of her illness she was never heard to utter an impatient word, always considerate of others. It was hard to be allowed even to do the little that loving hands could do for her comfort.
She will be sadly missed in this community. Lives like this are all too few. Her life has been a distinct benefit to the world. Those who knew her best, loved her most. Her sorrowing children may be glad that they can give back to their Savior so good a mother.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at Mt. Zion on Thursday, Dec. 9th, at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. H.J. Taylor, the pastor. Interment was made in the Miller Chapel Cemetery.
