Mary Leah Meredith.
Mary Leah Hornbaker, daughter of B. R. and Elizabeth Hornbaker, was born in Preble County, Ohio, January 1, 1837, and died at her home in Bonaparte, Iowa, March 18, 1908, aged 71 years, 2 months and 18 days.
She came to Iowa in 1846 on the day Iowa was made a state, and with her parents settled on a farm in Vernon township where she grew to womanhood, and was married to Jesse S. Meredith on the 7th day of February, 1856, beginning a married life that continued fifty-two years.
They resided on the farm continuously until fourteen years ago when they moved to Bonaparte. To their union three children were born, one son, George, and two daughters, Luella and Bertha.
she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, having united with it under the pastorate of Rev. J. W. Wright about twenty-nine years ago. She lived an exemplary Christian life, exerting an influence that was helpful to all and a blessing to her home.
She is survived by her husband, one son, two daughters, one brother, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Bonaparte Friday, March 20, Rev. G. W. Barber officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery.
