Mrs. Adam Russell.
Mrs. Adam Russell died at the hospital at Mt. Pleasant last Friday after an illness extending back five years. She suffered from mental trouble which grew upon her till it was necessary last June to remove her to the hospital for treatment.
Mary Elizabeth Russell was born in Van Buren County, Iowa, on September 14, 1855 and removed with her parents when an infant to Scotland County, Mo. where she grew to womanhood and was educated in the public schools. On December 24, 1876 she was united in marriage to Adam Russell in Scotland County and after a residence of two years in Clark County, Mo., they moved to Iowa, settling in Harrisburg Township, Van Buren County, where they lived till the death of the wife. No children were born to their union. At the time of her death Mrs. Russell was 52 years, 7 months and 6 days of age.
The deceased united with the Baptist church in Scotland County, Mo., at the age of seventeen years and remained faithful in her belief till the end of her earthly pilgrimage. She was well known to her neighbors and many friends as a good, kindhearted woman, a good wife and enjoying the esteem of all who knew her. In her afflictions she had the tender sympathy of all within her acquaintance. She is survived by the husband, an adopted daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Schrepfer, and three sisters, Mrs. Ida Fitzpatrick of Texas, Mrs. Florence McDonald and Mrs. Martha Buckles of Deer Lodge County, Montana.
The funeral services which were very largely attended occurred at 11 o'clock Monday morning from the late home North weight northeast of Bonaparte, conducted by a choir from Bonaparte. As marks of the esteem of many friends there were many pretty floral emblems resting upon the casket. The body was laid to rest in the Houlsworth [sic] cemetery.
