George Andrew Whiteley, third son of J. W. and Sarah Whiteley, was born in Bonaparte, August 8, 1861. He grew to manhood in his native town and was educated in the public schools of Bonaparte and in Burlington.
In 1880 he married Miss Mattie Bates of Silver Cliff, Colo. They made their residence in Wellington, Kas., and Kansas City, Mo. To their union was born three children, Robert of Kansas City, Frank of Globe, Colo. and Mrs. Edward Fessmeyer of San Francisco, California.
His death occurred in Kansas City, Mo., Friday, Nov. 3, 1905 after an illness of three days, he being of 44 years, two months and 25 days old. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn their loss a father, two sisters, Mrs. I. W. Allender, of Lamoni, Iowa, and Mrs. Ella Mitcheller, of Pueblo, Colo., and three brothers, T. C. Whiteley of Guthrie, Oklahoma Territory, and J. C. and Phil S. Whitely of Bonaparte, Iowa.
The deceased was a member of Bonaparte Lodge, No. 72 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. He was an expert accountant, a business man of good ability, and held many high positions of trust in the West.
Funeral services held at two o'clock Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the J. G. Whiteley home in Bonaparte, Rev. Williamson of Mt. Hamill, Iowa, an old friend, officiating. The remains were interred in the Bonaparte cemetery.
