Dr. Fred Steinmeyer

Obituary Sketch

Dr. Steinmeyer was born March 11, 1843. He enlisted in the Union army early in the war of the Rebellion in Co. H. 43 Illinois Infantry and was mustered out at the close of the war.

After returning home he began the study of medicine and graduated in 1869 from the Homeopathic school of medicine at St. Louis and began the practice of medicine in partnership with Dr. Whitlock of Farmington.

He was married in 1870 to Miss Jennie M. Coolidge of Bonaparte and in 1871 they settled here where he has since lived and practiced medicine. He was a man of artistic tastes, filling his home with his own works of art.

As a citizen he was cordial and quite companionable, many citizens of Bonaparte vicinity have most kindly recollections of the Doctor's kindliness and skill as a practicing physician.

He leaves a wife, one sister, Mrs. Geo. Helwig of Bonaparte, and four brothers, Joseph of Farmington, Louis of Bonaparte, Sam of Crawford county, Kansas, and Charles of Odessa, Mo.

He died Thursday, Jan 28, 1904, of a fall which broke his hip and otherwise injured him. His health has been poor for some time. Funeral services were held at the residence Saturday morning, Rev. Duty being in charge, and the body was taken to Davenport for cremation by special request of the deceased.
