Benjamin E. Mitchell.
Benjamin Elieb Mitchell seventh son of John and Mary Mitchell was born at the present family homestead, near Bonaparte on July 27, 1841, and fell asleep in Jesus, Aug. 20, 1908, being sixty seven years and twenty-four days old.
On Feb. 14, 1867, he was married to Miss Catharine Bly. To them were born two children Bennie G. and William E. The former died when ten years of age.
In the sixties he crossed the plains by wagon to California and returned via Panama, New York and the old home of his parents in the east.
The deceased leaves to mourn his loss, his devoted wife, his son, Wm. and family; also three brothers, Geo. U. Mitchell of Bonaparte, Ia., Jos. E. Mitchell of Covington, Ky., Calvin E. Mitchell of Boise City, Idaho; two sisters, Mrs. Mary J. Weaver and Mrs. Emma B. Seward, both of Bentonsport, Ia.
In February of 1896 the departed received and confessed Christ as his Savior. During his last weeks of suffering, he declared entire confidence to “depart and to be with Christ” would be “far better.”
He was laid to rest in the Bonaparte cemetery Aug. 22, 1908. Mr. John Moffatt of Centerville preaching the funeral discourse.
