Died - At her home in Bonaparte, Io. Mrs. Jane Callen, wife of M. S. Callen, on the morning of April 14th 1889, aged 63 years, eight months and 16 days.

Mrs. Callen was a daughter of John and Nancy Scott, and was born July 25th, 1825, near the village of Middleborough, located on the west bank of the Ohio River in Belmont County, Ohio. When quite young she removed to Illinois with her parents and in 1838 or 1839 they again moved west and located in Harrisburg Township, Van Buren County, Iowa.

When deceased was 18 years of age she was converted to religion and united with the Mt. Zion Baptist church and up to the time of her demise she remained a faithful and consistent believer in that christian faith.

She was united in marriage with M. S. Callen, August 24th, 1845, and became the mother of seven children, five of whom with her bereaved husband remain to mourn her loss. Two children preceded heard to that better world where sickness and sorrow no more. She with a she was a faithful and devoted wife and a kind and affectionate mother.

Deceased had been a sufferer from the effects of paralysis for over four years. Her afflictions and many sufferings were born with christian fortitude and resigned patience. During her last illness she was never heard to complain, except to say: " I am so tired." This no doubt was too true, and it grieved those near and dear to her to know that her suffering was intense and that they were not able to relieve her from physical pain, but there is consolation in the fact that she is now at rest in the arms of her Maker, and that her spirit has gone to that land where sickness and death, trials and troubles are not known.

She was a most estimates estimable lady, and will be sadly missed by many friends and acquaintances, but by none so much as those left in her late home where her chair is now vacant and that motherly voice is heard no more.

All that human hands could possibly do was done with a will and pleasure to prolong her stay upon earth, but God's will be done. The summons was given and the spirit obeyed the call.

Rev. Samuel Pichard of Charleston, Iowa, preached the funeral sermon at the Baptist church at 10 o'clock a.m. Saturday, April 13th, 1889, after which the remains were interred in the Bonaparte Cemetery. Mr. Pichard had known deceased from her childhood and was conducting the meeting at which she was converted to the christian faith, and spoke quite feelingly of her many good qualities and accomplishments of her useful life. Messrs. Joseph Israel, William Johnson, James Sage, Harry Humphreys, William Entler and Thomas Hopkins were pallbearers.
