Joseph Hinish was born at Kralowitz, Bohemia, March 19, 1840. He came to America in 1862, stopping a short while at Solon, Iowa, from which place he went to Davenport where he remained four years, working at his trade of a taylor. He was married there, July 19, 1864, to Miss Kate Roderick. They moved to Keokuk, where they remain two years, then came to Bonaparte, in 1873, residing here ever since, with the exception of a year and six months spent at a Prairie City, Iowa. No children were born to this union, but they raised to, Mrs. S. S. Troutman and Mrs. B. F. Jenkins, the latter deceased.

After almost two years of suffering, Mr. Hinish died April 23, 1900, having attained the age of 60 years, 1 month and 4 days. The funeral services occurred from his late home on the afternoon of April 25, 1900, and was under the auspices of the Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen, of which orders deceased was an honored member. Rev. E. J. Smith and Rev. G. W. Barber conducted the religious services.

Mr. Hinish was an excellent citizen, possessing many good qualities, and his friends, who are legion, regret his departure.

Note: Family enumerated in Bonaparte in 1870 census so mention of coming to Bonaparte in 1873 would seem incorrect.
