Nathan Bailey was born in Maryland August 24, 1815, and died in Harrisburg township, Van Buren County, Iowa, July 16, 1897, aged 82 years, 11 months and 8 days.

When quite young he moved to Zanesville, Ohio, where, in 1845, he was married to Mary McIlvain. They came to Iowa in 1855, settling first in Bonaparte. Two years later they moved to the neighborhood of Pierceville, living there and in other places in that community till a few years ago, when they moved to the late residence of the deceased, north of Bonaparte.

The funeral services occurred at the late home last Sunday afternoon, under the auspices of Bonaparte Lodge, No. 22, I. O. O. F., of which order Mr. Bailey has been a member for over 40 years. The services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Schofield, after which the remains were reposed in the Bonaparte cemetery.
