For some time past our ex-station agent, Mr. Thos. Hines has been in feeble health, and mention of his condition has frequently been made in these columns. Mr. Hines was a genial man, pleasant in the discharge of his duties, and a general favorite among Bonaparte people.
He suffered intensely during the last two months of his life, and when death came it was a most welcome relief.

[Thomas S. Hines was born April 16th, 1842 in Naperville, Ill. and lived there until he enlisted in the Eighth Illinois cavalry in 1861 and served until the end of the war. He married Miss Fannie Snow Nov. 6, 1874.

Three children were born to them; Walter P., Thos. H. and Madora L. He was employed in the railroad service at Moline for fifteen years, came to Bonaparte Feb. 5, 1889 as agent of the railroad company and was married to Miss Jennie M. Henkle March 26, 1890 and continued his service with the railroad company until Jan. 1st, 1898 when he gave up his position on account of brain trouble, and died at Mt Pleasant Oct. 25, 1898.]

The funeral, which was largely attended, occurred from the Methodist church in Bonaparte, on Thursday, October 27, 1898, and was conducted by Rev. W. H. Scofield. The Modern Woodmen of America, to which order deceased belonged, took charge of the burial. The G. A R.'s also accompanied, as an escort, the remains to their last resting place.
