Rites For Mrs. Murphy
KEOSAUQUA – Services for Blanche E. Murphy, 78, of Keosauqua, who died Sunday night, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m., at the Mount Zion United Presbyterian Church, north of Keosauqua, with the Rev. Harold Schnedler officiating.
Interment will be in the Miller Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua. [handwritten: Mar. 2 1975]
The daughter of Bordie and Maggie Taylor Sherod, she was born Jan. 21, 1897, near Birmingham. She attended Keosauqua High School and was valedictorian of the Class of 1917.
On Jan. 3, 1918, she was married to Earle N. (Pat) Murphy at Mount Zion. They lived in Oklahoma for several years and then returned to the Sherod family farm near Mount Zion in 1932. Mr. Murphy died in 1964. She moved to Keosauqua in 1968.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Margaret Price of Madison, Conn., a niece and a nephew. She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Mrs. Murphy was a lifetime member of the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church and Ladies Aid, a 50-year member of OES, an active member of DAR, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Van Buren County Historical Society and the Delphian Study Club, all of Keosauqua. A memorial has been established to her church.
