OBITUARIES

BERT JOHNSTON SR.

Bert Johnston Sr., son of Joseph and Margaret Sharrar Johnston, was born March 25, 1888, at Audubon, Iowa, and departed this life Friday, July 19, 1974, at the Ottumwa Hospital at the age of 86.

He lived in western Iowa and for a number of years in Minnesota and near Polk City, Iowa, and in his present farm home near Libertyville for the past two years.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his widow, Helen, four sons, Lloyd of Sumner, Wayne of Exira, Bert, Jr. of Des Moines, and Joseph of Polk City, three daughters, Mrs. Bertella McKeehan of Des Moines, Mrs. Helen Ferrel of Libertyville, and Mrs. Phronsie Floyd of Des Moines. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, a great grandchild, a brother, Cameron Johnston of Hudson, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by three wives, two sons, four brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Johnston was a self-employed electrician and farmer.

He had served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Hopkins Grove United Methodist Church near Polk City and was a member of the Eagles Lodge at Des Moines.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a good citizen and friend.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 23, 1974, at 2 P. M. at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church near Libertyville, with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Interment was in the Fell Cemetery near Libertyville. Arrangements were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds.
