Lena Crane

Lena A. Crane, 95, of Keosauqua died at 10:10 a.m. December 23, 1990, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

She was born June 26, 1895, near Keosauqua to Israel and Sarah Plowman Strait. She married Craige Russell on November 15, 1916. She married Gus Crane Jr. on April 28, 1921, in Ottumwa; he died in 1961.

She taught in rural Van Buren County schools and managed a farm in Van Buren Township before retiring to Keosauqua in 1970. She was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Retired Teacher's Association and was the charter president of the women's division of Van Buren County Farm Bureau. She was a writer, historian and genealogist.

She is survived by a son, D. Eugene Russell of Amarillo, Texas; two great grandchildren; a brother, Bruce Strait of Keosauqua and a sister, Mae DeLong of West Chester, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

The service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 1990 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, the Rev. Chrisa Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Pittsburg Cemetery, near Keosauqua.
