Henry C. Nichols

Henry C. Nichols, 82, of Douds, formerly of Fairfield, died at 7:50 a.m. today, Dec. 31, 1990, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Fairfield Friends Church with the Rev. Todd Follette officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the service begins. Cemetery north of Douds. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, where memorials to his church may be left.

Nichols was born May 29, 1908, in Haver, the son of Benjamin and Grace Armstrong Nichols. He married Della Hanshaw on Jan. 11, 1931, in Fairfield, where he lived until retiring to rural Douds in 1974. He was employed for 32 years at Dexter Company and served eight years as Fairfield city councilman-at-large. He was a member of Fairfield Friends Church.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Janet Tomlinson of Douds; a granddaughter; two brothers, Ray of Cedarburg, Wis., Robert of Knoxville and a sister, Dorothy Srout of Fairfield. Three sisters, Mae Blough, Eunice Cecil and Edna Law, preceded him in death.
