Hazel C. Harward, daughter of George and Mary Miller Wiley, was born August 10, 1901 at Leando and departed this life the evening of Tuesday, November 13, 1990 at University Hospital, Iowa City at the age of 89. She married Lowell "Bud" Harward March 20, 1919 in Fairfield. He died in 1979.
Hazel lived in Cantril until entering Manor House Care Center in Sigourney in 1979. She had been a cook for several years at the Cantril School.
Remaining to cherish her memory are five sons, Richard, Cantril; Rex, Stoutland, Missouri; Robert, Sioux City; Rosco, Santa Maria, California and Russell, Fairfield; four daughters, Bernice Gibson, Mesa, Arizona; Virginia Layman, Roundup, Montana; Jennie Chacey, Ollie and Mary Ann Watson, Joplin, Missouri. Also surviving are twenty grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, a sister, Evelyn Parks, Tucson, Arizona, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18, 1990 at 2 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, with Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Interment was in Leando Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Leando Cemetery.
