Eunice Newman

Eunice M. Newman, 72, of Keosauqua died Dec. 23, 1990, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

She was born July 15, 1918, in Ottumwa to Kit and Mabel Kirkhart Carruthers. She married Dennis Newman on Nov. 5, 1945, in Iowa City.

She graduated from Ottumwa High School and worked at Archie's Market in Keosauqua. She had been employed as postal clerk in the Keosauqua Post office before her retirement in 1983. She was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church and had been a member of Chapter I, P.E.O., Delphian Club and Friday Bridge Club of Keosauqua.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Pat Mennega of Belmond, Iowa; a son, Kit of Keosauqua; four grandchildren; a brother, Paul E. Carruthers of Ottumwa and a sister, Isal Palmer of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Carruthers.

The service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 1990 at the Keosauqua United Methodist Church, the Rev. Chrisa Ferguson officiating. Burial was in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Memorials may be made to her church or Van Buren County Hospital.
