Lelia E. Kelley, 91, was born in Lee County near Farmington, Dec. 17, 1898, the daughter of Ezra and Mary Kelley.
She passed away Mar. 6, 1990, at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, Iowa, after suffering a heart attack on March 5.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were two brothers, Eugene and Samuel Kelley, a brother-in-law, Max Nelson and one niece.
She graduated from Farmington High School with the class of 1918 and attended the former Fort Madison Business College. She worked in Des Moines for Wallaces Farmer for 10 years then moved to Chicago and worked for Midwest arm publications and other farm magazines in advertising and secretarial work. After 40 years, she retired to Northwest Retirement Community in Ames. She liked to travel and had been to many places over the world.
She belonged to the First Baptist Church in Ames and the Ames Women's Club.
One sister, Gladys Nelson of Audobon survives, also four nieces and one nephew. Dorothea Kelley is a cousin.
She was cremated and a memorial service was held at Northcrest Retirement Community on March 9, 1990. The remains will be buried in the Farmington Cemetery at a later date.
